Ruin your friendship with these 5 types of Escape room players

After what felt like an eternity, our game masters are finally back in the game! And boy oh boy, do all of you never disappoint. With everyone out and about, quenching their thirst for fun with quick getaways, they have had ample time to observe the quirky antics of escape room players that escaped lockdown. Whether local or out of state, the desire to have fun after a long time cooped up indoors has perhaps unleashed the best and the worst in everyone. If you’ve ever wondered how some people ever made it out of covid restrictions when they couldn’t even break out of an escape room, we may just have some answers for you. Below is a compilation of the new kinds of escape room players that could potentially RUIN YOUR FRIENDSHIP. Read part 1 here.

1- The Veteran

Old man salute

This is the person who probably invited you to Breakout to begin with. They have played every room, studied the cheat codes to puzzles on YouTube, and constantly boast about knowing where all the outlets are and which rooms are the best. These bigshot friends pride themselves in being the only one in the group to have ever stepped foot into an escape room. But experience is good, right? Well, not always. Veterans also tend to be the know-it -alls and will dominate the game, bulldozing over the decisions and contributions of the more quiet, shy types. These players will make you believe that what they are doing is always right! Watch out for their giant egos for it may just get the better of your team if you’re not careful.

2- The Strategist

Strategists see themselves as exceptionally smart and will spend not an insignificant amount of time before hand devising a plan of action. They will always make sure the group is huddled up and thinking of ways to outsmart the game before the game is even explained. They want to win no matter the cost even if it means sacrificing a teammate using the Assassin’s ability. If you’re wondering what that is? Well, at Breakout each player gets superpowers! Head on over to this link here to learn about Breakout’s gameplay! To quote Thanos “You couldn’t live with your failure so where did that lead you? Back to me”. This is the mindset strategists have when it comes to winning, which is great! But if you’re the sort to think outside the box and prefer to respond to situations as they arise, strategists and their stick to the game plan personality could end up rubbing you the wrong way.

3- The Decor

The décor is a fancy name for the person in the group that does nothing but stands there like a statue. You will be hot on your toes doing the puzzles and out of the corner of your eye you will see ‘ the décor ‘ looking blur, staring at you struggling with the puzzle and does nothing to step in and help. I suppose they do contribute body heat but honestly, our escape rooms are not that cold. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to RKO (google it) this person or just leave them in the escape room as a decoration once the game ends.

4- The Siren

Ghost in white dress

The siren is a very particular person who shrieks in escape rooms although it has been specified that there is nothing scream worthy and normally these people dictate the mood of the groups. Sirens are easily excitable and will exclaim with delight or terror at every slight twist and turn in the game. While they can uplift the mood in the room, their antics can also be a great distraction for tasks that require some mental focus. A single flicker or the sight of a moving shadow can cause a reaction from a siren to shriek as if they were being exorcised like Emily Rose herself! That said, sirens are perhaps the kind of people you would WANT to bring to a haunted house like HauntU. Link here).

5- The Joker

Joker head shot

Last but not least, we have the joker. Joker will literally make a joke out of everything and anything, from the game master to the props and even to their fellow teammates. You may be trying to pay attention to the instructions or read a clue when the joker will inevitably say something funny that throws off your focus. Don’t get us wrong, jokers make great friends and are like balls of energy and laughter, which is why you are hanging out with them to begin with. But they can be double edge swords in an escape room when you are trying your best to make it out of the room! Perhaps the worst combination would be having both a strategist and joker type of players in the same team. That would be a true test of friendship!

If any of these escape room players are in your friend group be prepared and don’t let their personality ruin your friendship with a failed escape room challenge!
